Alexandar Eason Research Award

A $3,000 award for students going above and beyond in independent research in their Spring UGRA proposal.

Alexandar Eason Award Details

The Alexandar Eason Research Award recognizes high achieving undergraduate researchers who go above and beyond standard expectations for independent undergraduate research in their UGRA proposal.

Recipients are selected from the Spring UGRA applicant pool to receive a one-time award of $3,000. As part of the review process of UGRA proposals, reviewers select a list of Alexander Eason Fellowship finalists. These finalists will be invited to provide a two-page essay describing their research, plans for presenting their research, and their academic and career goals. The Alexandar Eason Research Award winners are selected from the group of finalists and will be recognized at the annual Undergraduate Research Symposium in Spring.

Selection Criteria:

To be eligible for this fellowship, students must:

  • Apply for the Spring UGRA by November 1, 2026.
  • Have a 3.8+ GPA.
  • Be committed to pursuing graduate education.
  • Hold a strong interest in research or academic career.

Step 1: Apply for a UGRA

To be selected as a finalist:

  • Submit a UGRA proposal. Reviewers will be looking for student’s proposals that go “above and beyond” normal expectations for undergraduate work at all levels of the rubric used to evaluate UGRA proposals, including the students’ preparation for the field of research and the description of a project that is both original and methodologically rigorous.
  • Highlight your presentation plans. When submitting a UGRA proposal, the application form asks about plans to present the research/creative project. Successful Alexandar Eason Scholars will demonstrate potential to reach a wider audience through, for example, conference presentations, print and digital media, publication, or an undergraduate thesis.

Step 2: Apply for the fellowship as a finalist

Students selected as a finalist will be invited to submit additional documents. To be selected as an Alexander-Eason Fellow from the group of finalists:

  • Finalists will provide a 2-page essay describing their research, plans for presenting their research, and their academic and career goals.
  • Faculty Reviewers will evaluate the essay for the applicant’s potential in research and graduate education, following evaluation criteria set by faculty fellows.
