KU student from Lawrence named Astronaut Scholar
Arthur Benson, a Lawrence native and School of Engineering student, has been named a 2026-2027 Astronaut Scholar. The program awards approximately 60 scholarships annually to sophomores and juniors in STEM who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, significant research experience and a commitment to pursuing a career in research.

KU announces first Beinecke Scholar
Levi O’Connor, a senior in psychology from Louisburg, has been selected to receive the Beinecke Scholarship Program award for the 2026-2027 academic year. Each year, 20 students from across the nation receive $30,000 to be used for graduate study and $5,000 in their senior year. O’Connor is the first Jayhawk to receive the scholarship.

Two KU juniors to compete for Astronaut Scholarships
Two outstanding University of Kansas undergraduates are representing KU in the Astronaut Scholarship program. Arthur Benson is a junior in chemical engineering from Lawrence, and Gabrielle Bolfing is a a junior in astronomy and geology from Eureka, Missouri.

KU student Wyatt Vaughn named Udall Scholar
Wyatt Vaughn, a KU junior from Olathe double majoring in chemical engineering and English-creative writing, has received a federal Udall Undergraduate Scholarship. The award recognizes students who demonstrate leadership, public service and commitment in the fields of tribal public policy, Native health care or the environment.

KU announces Beinecke scholarship nominee
The University of Kansas has nominated Levi O'Connor, of Louisburg, for the Beinecke Scholarship Program. Only 135 colleges and universities across the country are invited to nominate one student for the scholarship each year. KU is the only participating institution in Kansas.

Three KU students receive prestigious Goldwater scholarships
The University of Kansas has three juniors who were selected to receive the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship out of more than 1,000 nominees nationwide. KU’s 2026 Barry M. Goldwater Scholars are Tatum Aikin, Arthur Benson and Carter Gray.

KU student Nora Jennings named finalist for Truman scholarship
Nora Jennings, a University of Kansas junior in chemical engineering from St. Louis, has been named a finalist for a 2026 Harry S. Truman Scholarship. Jennings was among 198 finalists from a pool of about 800 nominees.

57 KU students receive Undergraduate Research Awards for spring 2026
This spring, 57 Jayhawks received an Undergraduate Research Award (UGRA) from the Center for Undergraduate Research & Fellowships. UGRA recipients are awarded a $1,000 scholarship as they work on mentored research and creative projects.

In an effort to supply research opportunities to more students, four University of Kansas faculty members will be working alongside the Center for Undergraduate Research & Fellowships this fall and into the spring. The only students eligible for nomination are sophomore- and junior-level students with outstanding academic records, significant research experience and high potential for careers in mathematics, the natural sciences or engineering. Alexa Magstadt is majoring in molecular, cellular & developmental biology and minoring in Spanish.

Two outstanding University of Kansas undergraduates are representing KU in the Astronaut Scholarship program. The six surviving members of the Mercury 7 mission founded the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) in 1984 to encourage students to pursue scientific endeavors to keep the U.S. on the leading edge of technology.

KU junior Allison Muzzy nominated for Beinecke Scholarship Program
The University of Kansas has nominated a junior from Leavenworth for the Beinecke Scholarship Program, which annually offers awards to 20 undergraduates who intend to pursue a research-focused or fine arts master’s or doctoral program in the arts, humanities or social sciences.

KU senior from Lawrence is first-ever Jayhawk to be named a James C. Gaither Fellow
As part of the fellowship, Charlie Johnson will be assigned to scholars in Carnegie’s Middle East Program in Washington, D.C., assisting them with research and writing on projects related to the Middle East and North Africa.
