Resume and CV Tips for Fellowship & Scholarship Applications
General Tips
Typically for national competitions, you will need to keep your document to no more than two pages.
Use a legible font ranging in size from 10 to 12 point for your main content.
Break your content into thematic sections such as (as relevant to you):
- Education
- Internship/Work Experience
- Research Experience
- Campus Involvement
- Community Involvement
- Volunteer Experience
- Leadership Experience
- Honors & Awards
Focus on accomplishments and outcomes more than duties and responsibilities. Quantified statements are always helpful.
Include strong action verb statements. These are easy to read and skim.
Avoid complete sentences, overly flowery language, and long paragraphs. Be direct and concise.
Focus on valuable experiences. Anything on your document is fair game for an interview, so make sure you are prepared to elaborate on all of the content you include.
