Open Application Scholarships/Fellowships

The Center for Undergraduate Research & Fellowships supports students applying directly for fellowships and scholarships that do not need institutional endorsement. Students are strongly encouraged to register intent and seek assistance with their applications from the Office of Fellowships staff. Additionally, we can help you consider other academic scholarships and fellowship opportunities.

We also assist students with scholarships and fellowships that require campus nominations, such as the Goldwater, Truman, and Rhodes Scholarships.

Critical Language Scholarship

Critical Language Scholarships cover all costs of attending Intensive Summer Institutes through the United States Department of State to study a variety of languages.

DADD - German Academic Exchange Service

The German Academic Exchange Service offers a wide variety of scholarships for undergraduates and recent graduates for study in Germany.

Fulbright UK Summer Institute

The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers short term programs for U.S.-citizen undergraduates in their first or second year of college. The UK Summer Institutes take place at universities across the United Kingdom, and each institute has its own focus.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship

Gates Cambridge Scholarships provide full funding for students to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject at the University of Cambridge.

Hertz Foundation Fellowship

The Hertz Graduate Fellowship Award provides a cost-of-education allowance and a personal-support stipend for doctoral study in select fields of “applied physical science.”

Hollings Scholarship

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Earnest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship provides successful undergraduate applicants with awards to increase oceanic and atmospheric science research, technology, and education.

James Madison Memorial Fellowship

The James Madison Memorial Fellowships provide $24,000 for graduate study for students committed to teaching American history, American government, or social studies at the secondary school level (grades 7-12).

Knight-Hennessy Scholarship

Stanford's Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program "will annually identify a group of 100 high-achieving students from around the world with demonstrated leadership and civic commitment to receive full funding to pursue graduate education at Stanford."

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program

The National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program funds U.S.-citizen students in or entering research-focused Master’s or Ph.D. programs in NSF supported fields.

PPIA Fellowship

The Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Fellowship Program supports students interested in careers in public service who want to pursue Master’s or joint degrees in fields such as public policy, public administration, or international affairs.

Pickering and Rangel Fellowships

The Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program and the Rangel Graduate Fellowship Program are sibling programs funded by the U.S. Department of State designed to attract individuals from all backgrounds who have an interest to pursue Foreign Service.

Schwarzman Scholars Program

The Schwarzman Scholars Program aims to create an international community of global leaders. Students from around the world will study together for one year at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, earning a Master’s degree.

Soros Fellowship for New Americans

The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans pay up to 90k over two years for graduate study and living expenses for New Americans – permanent residents or naturalized citizens if born abroad, or children of parents who were not U.S. citizens.
