Fellowships & Scholarships

Astronaut Scholarship * (1)

$15,000 for up to 2 years for undergraduates to pursue research and advance their fields in STEM. Research experience and faculty nomination required. Campus deadline: mid-February. National deadline: Late March

Beinecke * (1)

$34,000 and mentoring for students pursing graduate study in the arts, humanities, or social sciences. Campus deadline: Early January

Boren Scholarship * (2)

Summer, semester, or year-long overseas study of languages in regions critical to US national interests. Campus deadline: Early December

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Junior Fellows *# (1)

$42,000 to graduating seniors or post-BA for a year-long foreign policy program. Campus deadline: December

Churchill Scholarship * (1)

$65,000 for 1 year of Master's study in a STEM field at Cambridge University. Campus deadline: Mid-May

Critical Languages Scholarship (1)

Summer study abroad and cultural immersion opportunity through the US State Department to learn critical languages essential to America’s engagement with the world. Application deadline: Mid-November

DAAD Study Scholarships *#

1-year MA or research PhD grant in Germany in a variety of fields, some in English. Campus deadline: November

DAAD RISE *#

Summer Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) in Germany (conducted in English). Campus deadline: December 15

Fulbright Student Grants* (3)

1-year post-BA fellowship for research, study, cultural exchange, or the teaching of English abroad. Campus deadline: Early September

UK Fulbright Summer Institutes

Summer programs for freshmen and sophomores with little international experience. Campus deadline: February

Gates-Cambridge Scholarship #

Post-BA study at Cambridge Univ. in any field. Evidence of commitment to improving the lives of others. Deadline: Mid-October

Gilman Scholarship * (2)

Study abroad scholarship for students receiving Pell Grants. Study Abroad Advisor’s certification of the online application required. Application deadlines vary, but typically in the first week of October and March.

Goldwater Scholarship * (1)

$7,500 for up to 2 years of undergraduate study in STEM . Research experience required. Campus deadline: Late October

Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS) Program # (1)

Full funding for graduate study at Stanford university for students with leadership and civic engagement, who want to join a multidisciplinary community dedicated to finding creative solutions to the world's greatest challenges. Campus deadline: Early October

Marshall Scholarship * (1)

A postgraduate scholarship to study at any university in the UK, in any field. Academic excellence, leadership, and ambassadorial potential. Campus deadline: Mid-May

Mitchell Scholarship * (1)

Tuition, accommodation, and a stipend for living expenses and travel for one-year postgraduate study in Ireland in any field. Three selection criteria: academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to public service. Campus deadline: May

National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF-GRF)

$37,000/year for up to 3 years of research-based study leading to a MS or PhD in STEM or STEM education. Application deadlines vary by discipline: Most third week in October

Newman Civic Fellowship *

A year-long program that supports students with interest in policy reform, community-based research, and organizing. Campus deadline: Early January

NOAA Hollings

$9,500 per year for 2 years, conference travel, plus a paid summer internship at a NOAA facility. Application deadline: January

Phi Beta Kappa-Key into Public Service Scholarship

$5,000 for sophomores and juniors in the liberal arts and sciences interested in active citizenship. Application deadline: Mid-January

Pickering and Rangel Fellowships

$42,000 a year to fund a 2-year MA at a U.S. graduate institution in fields relevant to foreign service, foreign policy, and international relations. Women, underrepresented minority groups, and students with financial need encouraged to apply. Application deadline: End of September

Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Junior Summer Institute #

Fully funded 7-week program including public policy and international affairs coursework, graduate school preparation, and enrichment activities based at 1 of 6 prestigious universities in the country. Application deadline: Early November

Rhodes Scholarship *# (1)

International postgraduate award for students from all disciplines to study at the University of Oxford. Requirements: scholarly excellence, leadership, and the will to "fight the world's fight." Campus deadline: Mid-May

Schwarzman Scholarship *# (1)

1-year master's at Tsinghua Uni. in Beijing in public policy, finance, international studies. Internship and mentorship. Campus deadline: May 1 (Passports from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macao) or August (others)

Soros Fellowship for New Americans

Up to $90,000 for immigrants or the children of immigrants for 1 to 2 years of graduate study in any field and in any advanced degree-granting program in the US. Deadline: Late October

Truman Fellowship * (1)

Up to $30,000 for graduate or professional school for juniors committed to public service. Selection based on likelihood of success in graduate school, commitment to a career in public service, and demonstration of leadership. Campus deadline: October

Udall Scholarship * (1)

Up to $7000 in scholarships awarded to sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to Native American nations (tribal health or governance) or to the environment. Campus deadline: December or January
